What Makes RAIDSTAR FC2 Best Of Breed
Our enclosure was designed with the most stringent design criteria
in mind. As a result, we wanted to accommodate 15K RPM disk drives,
very high track density disks (which may have touchy servos), high
signal frequencies, and a full Enterprise-level feature set. These
requirements dictated that the RAIDSTAR FC2 enclosure have:
1. An extremely rigid mounting to prevent rotational vibration
cross talk, thus supporting up to 15K RPM and very high track density
disks. Failure to meet this requirement results in a high percentage
of Write Inhibit errors, and a concurrent loss of performance due
to extra disk revolutions. Some enclosures with less expensive plastic
carriers give rise to write inhibits as high as 50 percent! In our
tests, RAIDSTAR FC2 exhibited a write inhibit rate of 0 percent!
2. A completely enclosed disk drive carrier to provide EMI/RFI
immunity with very high signal frequencies. The RAIDSTAR FC2 enclosure
passes Industry Canada / FCC Class B with FC-AL drives in it!
3. The choice of 14 disks was driven by the highest density which
could be achieved (within the restraints above) and the good match
between high performance bus structures and the ideal number of
disks per bus.
Weve combined all these advanced features with dual active
RAID controllers offering cache coherence and auto failover features
at extremely high performance points. The RAIDSTAR FC allows four
FC-to-host links (full duplex) with a real-world maximum
bandwidth of upto 800MB/sec.
