Products :: Tape Subsystems :: SKYSTOR AIT

SKYSTOR represents a revolutionary advancement in storage technology
implementing a format known as Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT).
Offering a capacity of up to 130.0GB* on a single tape and a transfer
rate of up to 15.0MB/sec.*, the SKYSTOR tape drives and autoloader
are among the highest performance tape drive mechanisms available.

The SKYSTOR technology is also exceptionally reliable. Unlike conventional
tape drives, the Advanced Intelligent design utilizes Advanced Metal
Evaporate (AME) tape media that creates a virtually contamination-free
operating environment. This, combined with the drive's Active Head
Cleaner, eliminates the need for user-initiated head cleaning. Moreover,
the SKYSTOR's tape tension control vastly extends head and media
life compared with competing technologies.
The SKYSTOR family of tape solutions also incorporates a "Memory
in Cassette" (MIC) feature. By accessing a 64KB EEPROM found
in MIC tape cartridges, the drive offers faster file access times
by predetermining file location - no searches are necessary. This
feature also offers predictive diagnosis of media degradation and
enhanced security through the use of decryption codes stored in
the EEPROM.
For large capacity requirements or to automate your back-up process,
the SKYSTOR 2800 and SKYSTOR 4000 Autoloaders combine all the attributes
of SKYSTOR tape drives with a 4-cartridge autoloading mechanism.
The SKYSTOR family is available in external or internal configurations.
To complete your backup solution, order Computer Associates' ARCserve
(link) backup software for Windows NT, Novell Netware or Unix platforms.
SKYDATA can bundle a wide range of ARCserve server or enterprise
solutions including agents and options specifically tailored for
your application.
